Note: In this art section there is a mix of stuff I am proud of, and a mix of stuff I’m not a big fan of any more but I learned a lot from those projects. I’ll give a ton of information on the art, and a lot of reflection on them. I love hearing about processes and seeing people’s work and hearing all the details, it’s a big part of who I am! This website is kind of like a library for myself to look back on and remind myself how much I’ve grown, which is a satisfying feeling. If that’s not the kind of stuff you are interested in, then I’d recommend going to the Portfolio section, to see the best of what I have to offer! With that said, please enjoy!

I have a passion for writing, in any medium.

I love thinking up stories to tell, and it’s hard to beat the feeling of getting a good idea. No matter the medium, I love writing and I enjoy the challenge of adapting an idea to fit a specific format, because often the best art comes from limitation. There are a lot of story ideas that are just notes on my computer at the moment, not ready to be shown the light of day quite yet, so hopefully these writings can satiate your interest!

Comics written by me can be found in the 2D Art section.

Here’s a showcase of my writing from the courses at George Mason University:

“Virtual Riot” is a script I wrote for GMU’s FAV 280 Writing for the Moving Image, taught by Professor Kraus. The majority of this summer course was spent drafting and continuously revising this script, which I found super fun. The prompt was to write a 10 minute or less short film, so the script was meant to be around 10 pages long. I learned a lot about script writing, which I was always interested in as someone who loves analyzing and critiquing writing (did you know that one page of a script generally translates to being about one minute of screen time?). Anyway, this script was originally way too long, coming in at about 15 pages since I had a lot I wanted to say, and a lot of little jokes I wanted to squeeze in. Using feedback from my classmates and in one-on-one meetings with the Professor I saw the holes in my writing and was able to cut out a lot of the fat. A like how it came out, but I’ll say that the format of a short film made it very difficult to foreshadow a lot of the events I wanted to tease early on in the story. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the script as much as I enjoyed writing it!

“Dealing with Screen Time’s Effects” is a paper I wrote for my Research Interests Narrative in GMU’s ENGH 302 Advanced Composition, taught by Professor King. I was tasked with reflecting on my interests regarding my major, and to chose and focus on a problem facing my prospective industry. The topic that I chose would be what I would be researching and writing on in different ways for the rest of the semester. So I chose to cover the topic of screen time effects, since I knew that was something that was plaguing the field of game design, and many new companies are selling items as a cure-all for this problem. The scientific studies on screen time were much more complicated than I expected, but I think that just made my research that much more fun to write and think about.

“Screen Time Danger: What Can Any of Us Do?” is a paper I wrote for my Discipline Project in GMU’s ENGH 302 Advanced Composition, taught by Professor King. For the assignment, I had to adapt my research I had done on the effects of excessive screen time to a public audience, with my major in mind. To do this, I analyzed then emulated the writing formula of video game news sites, like Edge Magazine and Kotaku to casually educate a gaming audience on what the risks are.

Note: since I converted my paper into images to put it onto my website, the hyperlinks do not work, so the links are placed in order of appearance below the slideshow of pages

“Screen Time: A Review of the Health Impacts and Effectiveness of Technological Interventions” is a paper I wrote for my Literature Review in GMU’s ENGH 302 Advanced Composition, taught by Professor King. I was tasked with analyzing and synthesizing six credible scientific sources about the subject of my choice, screen time’s effects. Over the years, there have been many contradictory studies done on both the effects of screen time and how to avoid those effects, so there was a lot to talk about in this paper. Writing this in such a scientific and professional tone was a fun challenge to face.

“The Doubts, Fears, and Failed Relationships of Francie: How Characterization Creates the Theme of ‘How to Become a Writer’ by Lorrie Moore” is a paper I wrote for my Fiction Paper in GMU’s ENGH 201 Reading and Writing about Texts, taught by Professor King. For this paper, I had to chose from 7 different short stories to S , and I chose the short story '“How to Become a Writer.” I picked that one because both it's subject and second-person perspective stood out to me as a very clever way to tell a hard hitting story. I love doing a deep dive into what a writer intended by their story, and what a reader could interpret from it.

“Writing About Sacrifice and Loss for Love: How ‘Sunflower Sonnet No. 2’ by June Jordan and ‘The Story We Know’ by Martha Collins Use Poetry to Present Their Themes” is a paper I wrote for my Poetry Paper in GMU’s ENGH 201 Reading and Writing about Texts, taught by Professor King. I was tasked with writing this paper where I compared and contrasted two different poems, and their way of presenting themes through their unique writing methods. The way that, even within a single genre, writers can present similar themes in such unique ways will never stop amazing me.

“How ‘How to Become a Writer’ by Lorrie Moore Helped Me Become a Better Writer” is a paper I wrote for my Narrative Essay in GMU’s ENGH 201 Reading and Writing about Texts, taught by Professor King. For this essay, I had to right about one of the pieces of literature that I’d read for class that had an impact on me. Luckily, "How to Become a Writer” stuck with me after reading it that it changed the way I wrote, for myself. or others. This one is pretty personal, and talks a lot about why I love stories and writing, so if you want to hear more about that, give this one a read.
