GAME ART
Restaurant Rush
A group project game, all visual art assets, except the main menu, were created by Ryan Bone.
The Unity project containing the Nintendo DS work environment and input manager was provided by George Mason University’s Professor Dieterich. The group consisted of: Kaitlyn Flynn, who made the sound effects, Bobby Bronaugh, who worked on the main menu art, music, and additional sound effects, Kevin Phan who came up with the original idea for the game and coded it, and Ryan Bone, who designed many gameplay concepts, made all of the non-main menu art assets, and created asset lists to keep the team on track.
Gameplay and art were designed with the Nintendo DS’s technological limitations in mind, and is an arcade-style high score game. The player attempts to get as many points as they can by fulfilling as many orders from customers as they can before time runs out. The player makes the burgers by pressing on certain parts of the bottom screen, dragging ingredients towards each other to make the burger with the right toppings to keep customers satisfied.
The Haunting of Harrison Hall
A group project game, where Ryan Bone modeled and textured the main character, hallways, rooms, and stairwells. Ryan also designed the menus and UI.
This game was designed in Unreal Engine, using all original art and programming. The group consisted of Brendan McDermott, who made some of the models, animations, and textures for the props, and focused on the ghost enemy art, Kevin Phan, who coded and implemented the assets, and Ryan Bone, who made most models, animations, and textures for all the rooms, hallways, doors, and the main character. Ryan made all of the concept art of the locations and models, as well as all of the menus and UI. Together, they came up with the idea of a game that revolves around the idea of the stress experienced as a college student. We present this theme by revolving the story around a student collecting study sheets and rushing to do their Resident Advisor tasks, while being chased by a ghost of a student, formed out of their stress.
George Mason: Declaration of Rites
A group project game, where a team of 11 artists were managed and organized by Ryan Bone. He also did the art for the menu UI, modeled and textured the background diorama and stone columns, while implementing all of the art team’s assets into the Unity project.
An entire class of 24 students worked together, with George Mason University’s Professor Dieterich overseeing, to make “George Mason: Declaration of Rites” in Unity. The project was done virtually, over Discord and through file sharing services. When separating into groups based on areas of talent, the group of 11 artists nominated and voted Ryan Bone into the position of “Art Lead” where he would oversee everyone’s work each week, and make sure that the game would be finished on time, with everyone contributing their own art. Ryan made asset lists and schedule spreadsheets, planning out what each student would have to do each week, while checking in during bi-weekly meetings with the team. Through many direct messages, calls, and conversations, Ryan managed to put together the team’s art, while keeping consistent art direction, into a publicly published fun and functional 2.5D Platformer.
